Head Start
Head Start is a federal program for preschool children from economically disadvantaged families. Children who attend Head Start participate in a variety of educational activities, receive free health screenings, have healthy meals and snacks, and enjoy opportunities for both indoor and outdoor play in a safe, nurturing and supportive environment.
Head Start staff recognizes that parents are the first and most important teachers in their child’s lives. Parents are welcome participants in all program activities and work as partners with the staff in planning and implementing activities that encourage all children to be successful. Head Start offers support services to families who may need help with medical, social welfare, substance abuse, and/or employment issues. Referrals are made to community based organizations and agencies who can help families in crisis and the Head Start staff will follow up to be sure the family has received appropriate assistance.
